Everyone listens to the same five people

Huberman just tweeted this:

I eagerly clicked on the tweet, hoping to find some great interviews.

But there was nothing new.

Everyone mentioned the same podcasts and the same guests. The only disagreements were around which podcast appearance of the same guest was arguably better:

It feels like the internet is converging and you see the same few people regurgitating the same few ideas everywhere.

I really liked Twitter when I first started properly using it in 2022. It exposed me to tons of new ideas and people. I ended up getting an insanely cool gig from it. Made new friends. And changed my mind on a bunch of things.

But now... it's just mostly the same.

I think it's time to take a break from Twitter. I got my fill over the last two years. Twitter did a great job exposing me to tons of new ideas, now I can just go deep on the things I'm into (which I found through Twitter).

Johannes A. Niederhauser talked about curiosity as a vice. In German it's Neugier – which translates to "new" and "greed". You're greedy for the new.

When I first joined Twitter I did need some new input as things were stale, and I needed to inject some novelty and new ideas.

However, now I'm more settled and got loads of things I'm excited to go deep on. I don't need new stuff anymore (or at least not right now).

Yet, that's the impulse when I check Twitter, I'm looking for "the new" and when the yearning isn't met, I feel let down. I wouldn't go as far as thinking of myself as an addict whose dealer doesn't have his favorite drug, but it's not far off.

So, time to say goodbye to Twitter. At least for the rest of the year. Let's see how it goes.
